COST OF LIVING IN BELGIUM

Sometimes I've got asked ''How much do I spend while studying abroad?'' How much does it cost to rent a room for a student or what are the prices for bread, milk and vegetables? And actually before I went to study in Europe I was searching all over the internet for this information to be able to plan in advance how much will I spend and would I be able to afford it at all. So what I did during previous month is saving of all my receipts from all the shops I did purchases in and all the payments I made including room deposit, transport, sim card, food and so on. I decided to share this info with you in case you (as me earlier) are in the stage of planning your future studying/living in Belgium. All prices you see here are in euro and valid for the last month (February, 2014). Of course, keep in mind that in Belgium as in all other countries some shops could be cheaper or more expensive than others. Last February I mostly was buying food in Aldi, Match and Lidl since they are close to my house. Again, I didn't put here approximate spending. What you see here, it is everything I bought and had to pay for during the previous month. My grand total was really high: almost 900 though quite a big part of it was room deposit which is refundable and rent. I also had to buy teapot and iron because I didn't have them in my room and it's hard to live without them. Also I purchased special litter bags (yellow and blue) because in Belgium each city has it is own bags which you put garbage in (don't forget to separate it - the rules can be found on the cities official websites). Hope, this information would be helpful for you and thank you for reading.
If you like me are studying in Europe at the moment, feel free to share your spendings in the comments below. It would be interesting to compare if living in Belgium is less or more expensive than in other European countries.
